The use of mobile phones and smartphones has increased an awareness about the dangers of driving while distracted, perhaps even more than drinking and driving. While driving under the influence of alcohol can have major life consequences, such as jail time, mandatory ignition interlock installation, court fines, costs and fees, the penalties for driving while distracted are not as clear. Across the country, laws are being updated to reflect the dangers involved with drinking and driving, as well as distracted driving.
Be smart, safe and sober when driving and help reduce the rates of vehicle-related injuries and deaths. Use your phone responsibly while operating a vehicle, including ignoring texts, utilizing safe “hands-free” communication and calling for a ride home when drinking.
