Ignition interlock devices are designed to keep drunk drivers off the road, using technology to eliminate the possibility of an alcohol-related driving injury, accident or death. Recently, however, an ignition interlock device performed another heroic task – it thwarted a shoplifting attempt. NBC Connecticut reports that a would-be shoplifter tried to steal thousands of dollars of items from a local TJ Maxx store, but upon attempting to steal a car to escape, the thief could not figure out how to operate the installed IID and was caught by police.
