Ignition interlock devices are widely being viewed as devices that can reduce the number of repeat drunk drivers on the road. According to NBC Washington, a law in Virginia that required mandatory ignition interlock installations went into effect in July, 2012. Since then, the number of drivers in Virginia with ignition interlock devices installed in vehicles has doubled, focusing on first-time offenders instead of those with more than one DUI offense or a high blood alcohol concentration (BAC).
