While a recent recommendation by the NHTSA to lower the legal limit for driving under the influence of alcohol from .08% to .05% seems to have stirred up controversy, there is definite proof that a lower BAC limit does save lives. Huffington Post Canada reports that two years after implementing a .05% BAC limit in British Columbia, fatalities attributed to drunk driving accidents were reduced over 40 percent, netting an estimated 104 lives saved by lowering the limit.
