February 23, 2013 marked an important event in the global fight against drunk driving. CBC News reports that drivers in Prince Edward Island, Canada, will be faced with the mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device in a vehicle if convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. This new law seeks to reduce or eliminate the rate of drunk driving accidents and fatalities through the device’s ability to “disarm a drunk” by testing blood alcohol concentration prior to starting a vehicle, as well as during “rolling” tests that occur while the vehicle is in use.
