Currently, Ohio ignition interlock law requires any second or subsequent OVI/DUI offender to install an ignition interlock device (IID) on a vehicle, but, not all first-time offenders face the same restrictions. According to abc22now.com, “Annie’s Law” will change the IID requirement in the state, making Ohio ignition interlock guidelines reflect recommendations by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and other organizations. Annie’s Law would require the mandatory installation of an IID on any and all vehicles driven by a drunk driver who tests at the legal .08 blood alcohol concentration limit when arrested. If passed, this Ohio ignition interlock law will reinforce studies and research that shows any person who has been convicted of an alcohol-related driving offense has likely driven drunk an estimated 80 times prior to the conviction.
