Citing statistics and research related to the legal drinking age in the U.S., a recent study in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs proclaims hundreds of lives are being saved, as well as other physical and mental benefits. The Arkansas Traveler reports on this study, indicating that the legal drinking age has reduced drunk driving fatalities by 900 instances each year. Additionally, the legal drinking age is responsible for the biggest drop in underage drunk driving accidents, and that it has significant benefits for young adult brain development to wait until age 21 to consume alcohol.
