Decades ago, the legal drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 years of age, with a collective despair from those considered “adults,” but, not adult enough to make a decision about consuming alcohol on their own. According to Huffington Post, recent research upholds the decision to raise the legal drinking age to 21, especially when considering the number of lives that have been saved. While many feel that being caught in between the two ages is unfair, there is research to show that not only does the legal limit encourage more responsible behaviors, but, the damage that alcohol can do to the still-developing brain before age 21 could be a factor, as well.
