21 states have taken a strong stance against drunk driving, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) wants Florida ignition interlock laws to change in order to keep those streets safe. CBS 12.com reports that MADD recently sent Will Weatherford, Speaker of the Florida House a letter asking him to strengthen Florida ignition interlock laws, particularly seeking stricter penalties for first-time DUI offenders in the state. Currently, Florida ignition interlock law only requires the mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device for first-time offenders with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15, but at the prompting of MADD, this could potentially be lowered to the national BAC limit of .08.
