Recent headlines have been telling New York residents that the penalties for driving while under the influence of alcohol have become even harsher, due to the new legislation of “Leandra’s Law” as of November 1, 2013. According to legislativegazette.com, these laws affect New York residents in many ways, each of which serves to keep the streets safe from the danger of those who chose to drive after drinking alcohol. Replacing former laws that were not strict enough in the state, the November 1 implementation of these laws increases the penalties for driving drunk from a misdemeanor to a felony in many cases, as well as underage drunk drivers and more.
