When you make a choice to drive under the influence of alcohol, you are also making a choice to accept the consequences for your actions. Mississippi law reflects that conviction, and sees every driver as perfectly capable of making responsible choices when it comes to drinking and driving. That is why the state suspends the driver’s license of anyone who has been charged with a DUI or OWI in the state. If you break the rules, you lose your license to drive. Then, the next move depends on the accused and/or convicted drunk driver.
After a driver’s license is suspended for DUI in Mississippi, you have a chance to get back to a normal life if you are able to install an ignition interlock device (IID). That means that instead of asking your friends, family and neighbors for rides to court, work or school, you get to take back control of your life. You do not have to rely on public transportation to get you around, either, and you are showing the court that you are seriously sorry for the DUI. In exchange, all you have to do is remain sober behind the wheel of your car or any other vehicles you are allowed to drive.
A DUI or OWI in Mississippi is not the end of your freedom. It is, however, a chance to see where more responsible choices can be made in the future. If your license is suspended for a Mississippi DUI charge, you still have plenty of options before you, and the time to think them through clearly. At the end of the day, you may see an IID as a way to close a chapter on the “old you,” and start fresh with a more responsible and wiser “you” that clearly understands the consequences of drinking and driving… and will never travel that road again.
