North Carolina is just one of many states that are increasing penalties for drunk drivers, yet, the changes to the laws are some that may truly reflect the need for a “tough love” stance against driving drunk. Intercooler Online reports that there are four laws under consideration that will help keep the streets safe from drunk drivers, two of which focus on habitual drunk driving offenders, making three convictions a felony and foregoing any “lookback period” when considering if drunk drivers are habitual or not. In addition, the new laws would allow a blood or urine test for blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to be performed at hospitals, which helps law enforcement in rural areas that may not have a local crime lab.
