One of the biggest considerations a person may have before a night on the town is the number of drinks he or she can consume before being considered legally drunk and unsafe to drive home. The national blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit is set at .08, allowing for a small amount of alcohol to be consumed before significant driving impairment occurs. Keep in mind that no matter the actual measurement of alcohol in a person’s blood, he or she can still be pulled over and arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated based upon driving behaviors observed by law enforcement or others on the road.
There are many factors that are taken into consideration when trying to determine the number of “safe” drinks a person can have within a given time period. The alcohol content of the beverage, the weight and gender of the person drinking and medications may come into play. If you will be at a bar, party or event that serves alcohol, arrange for a sober ride home or plan to be the designated driver for the night. Even one beer can create situations where poor judgment is exercised, and your safety and the safety of others on the road is more important than drinking down a cold one.
