Drunk driving continues to claim lives and cause serious injuries to innocent citizens across the country. Each state in the U.S. has its own definition of what a drunk driver is, yet, nationally, all states share the same legal blood alcohol concentration limit (.o8%) that defines when a person is too drunk to drive.
Whether a person is convicted of a DUI, DWI, OVI or other alcohol-related criminal charge, the one acronym that should be understood is the IID, or Ignition Interlock Device. An IID is a small device that is installed in a vehicle to help prevent a person from driving drunk. The device disables the vehicle if a person’s breath tests positive for alcohol. The success rate of an ignition interlock program in states where it is part of the consequences for driving while intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol proves that the only smart move to make to fight DUI or DWI charges is to take the choice out of the hands of a person who drives drunk.
