Driving under the influence of alcohol is a dangerous activity that puts the lives of others at risk. The seriousness of the crime can be seen by families and loved ones affected by the death or injury to a victim of a drunk driver, but, what may not be well known is that for each driver convicted of a DUI or DWI offense, that person has already driven drunk 80 times.
Currently, each state has some type of ignition interlock law, designed to protect citizens from convicted DUI/DWI offenders who have already made the dangerous choice to drive while drunk, 80 times over. These devices help to ensure a driver cannot operate a vehicle while intoxicated, saving lives and helping to lessen the burden on our communities. With ignition interlock devices, the choice to drive drunk is taken away from a person, eliminating the opportunity to drive drunk another 80 times before another arrest and conviction.
