Throughout the entire U.S., the rate of underage drinking and driving has dropped significantly. Much of this drop has been attributed to the education efforts of the effects of alcohol and drinking and driving at a younger age, as well as “Zero Tolerance” laws. Zero Tolerance laws, in regard to people under the age of 21, enforce the idea that no underage person can have a measurable Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). Any BAC above .00 will result in an arrest and life-changing legal, financial and social consequences.
Teens that drink still report drinking to excess, binge drinking and drinking and driving. While Zero Tolerance laws have helped to lower the rate of drinking and driving across the country, more efforts need to be made to eliminate the possibility of underage drinking and driving.
